Air Liquide Deploys Membrane Solution for MODEC FPSO
- News
Air Liquide has delivered the first skids as part of the contract it was awarded by MODEC, a global supplier and operator of offshore floating production units. Air Liquide will supply state-of-the-art membrane technology for the project of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO), the FPSO Almirante Barroso MV32, to be deployed at Petrobras’ Buzios field, offshore of Brazil. Air Liquide’s solution will separate and purify hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide from the natural gas onboard the FPSO.
A deployment of Air Liquide’s All Membrane SolutionTM technology will treat and process the natural gas onboard MODEC’s FPSO Almirante Barroso MV32 project and remove hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from associated natural gas onboard the FPSO. This project is a first of its kind in utilizing membranes for H2S removal, replacing conventional scavenging equipment aboard an FPSO with a more efficient and innovative solution.
Air Liquide’s state-of-the-art membrane technology has been a fixture within its innovative solutions portfolio, providing comprehensive solutions for gas separation and gas purification for industries. Air Liquide’s All Membrane SolutionTM simplifies the gas purification process by removing multiple contaminants in fewer steps than conventional processes. The benefits of this solution are magnified for offshore platforms and FPSO applications where weight, footprint and operational simplicity are paramount.
Air Liquide’s membrane technology offers a safe and low OPEX H2S solution as compared to conventional scavenging technologies, as well as significant reductions in weight and footprint. Air Liquide’s membranes will be manufactured in Woburn, MA and Newport, DE, with project execution out of Air Liquide’s Global Markets & Technologies’ Malaysian office.
